Speaking is a complex skill. Learners may need a lot of help to prepare for speaking: practice of necessary vocabulary, time to organize ideas, pronunciation practice, etc.The activities in a speaking lesson ofter follow this pattern.
- Lead-in: introduction to the topic, activities focusing on the new language.
- Practice activities to give them opportunities to use the new language.
- Post-task activities in which students can discuss the topic and the language used freely.
ENGLISH FOR WORK
English is the lingua franca used for business, communication, science, technology... More and more people need to have at least an intermediate level to be able to communicate with colleagues and customers in their specific professional field.
English students would need to become familiar with the specialist technical language they will be using at work. In order to make the course relevant and motivating to students, authentic texts and listening and real speaking situations and activities are required. Teachers need to ensure that the right materials are used so students develop the required communication skills.
